HOW TO APPLY

New students are advised to discuss their educational plans with a Burnaby South College Educational Advisor or Counselor prior to applying.

Step 1 Obtain an Application for Admission Form from Admission Office or download and print from our website: Download Application Form

Step 2 Choose your preferred Program(s)e.g IT Programmer jobs, mechanical engineering jobs . Fill in the application form completely and accurately. Incomplete forms will be returned.

Step 3 Attach supporting documents: • High School or Post-Secondary Transcripts as applicable, in English. • Transcripts must be official copies bears an official seal and/or signature of the issuing institution. Certified copies of supporting documentations can be accepted. Official transcripts become the property of the College and will not be returned. • Proof of Immigration Status. All applicants who are not Canadian citizens must provide their original immigration form or a notarized copy to verify their immigration status, or their Permanent Resident Identification (I.D.) card. • Two passport-type photographs • TOEFL scores, if available • Valid Study Permit and Passport, if available

Step 4 Submit the completed application package including the completed application form, supporting documents, and application fee by mail or in person to an address. Admission Requirement Full Time Students For enrolment in Burnaby South College, applicants should have a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. Applicants without a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent, may be required to take an entrance examination. International students are required to demonstrate proficiency in English. International students who have graduated from the Intensive Level 106 course of ELS Language Centers Canada, are exempt from having to demonstrate proficiency in English. Part Time Students Admission requirements vary depending on the program or course. Students should contact Part Time Studies for further information.

Policy & Procedure School Hours Burnaby South College is open Monday to Friday for scheduled classes and individual student study. The College opens at 8:30 am and closes at 5:00 pm. On some evenings, the campus remains open until 9.00pm. Scheduled Class Hours Full-time classes typically run from 9:00am-12:30pm for the morning session and from 1:30pm-3:30pm for the afternoon session. In some programs, attendance at afternoon sessions may be optional. Appearance and Dress Code Students are permitted to wear any dress that is not rude, offensive, soiled or which causes disruption to classes. Food, Beverage and Smoking Burnaby South College provides an on-campus student lounge for students to prepare light meals and snacks. The lounge is equipped with vending machines and microwave ovens. Burnaby South College is a SMOKE-FREE Environment. For those students who smoke, an area at the rear of the building is the only authorized area for smoking purposes. School Supplies Students are required to purchase their own basic school materials such as pens, pencils, paper, etc.

Program Grading Model Ashton College grades student performance on a letter-based system of A-D with unsatisfactory performance identified as F. Letter Range Numerical Range A+ 90-100 A 85-89 A- 80-84 B+ 77-79 B 73-76 B- 70-72 C+ 67-69 C 65-66 F Less than 65% The minimum passing grade for any Ashton course is 65%. The minimum passing grade for any BSC program is the successful completion of all required courses in the program with a minimum of 65%in each course. Those students who achieve a program final mark of 90% or greater will be issued with an Honours Diploma or Certificate. Those students, who receive a mark of between 50% and 64% in any course, will be eligible to do either an examination rewrite or an additional assignment bases on consultation between the instructor and the respective Dean. Those students who receive a mark of 50% or less in any course will be required to retake the course. A student is allowed to complete one examination rewrite or one additional assignment per course. If the student achieves a mark of less than 65% for the examination rewrite or the additional assignment, the student is deemed to have failed the course and must then retake the course.
